On Thursday 21st April, SHP held its very own Arts Day! The theme of the day was to explore portrait drawing and painting.
To kick start the day and inspire us as artists, we invited a graffiti artist into our assembly. Here is what he created:
We’re planning to display this in our hall. Every child and every staff member completed a self-portrait on a small canvas. The individual self-portraits will be collected, arranged and mounted on a large display board, creating a picture of the whole school.
To help us with portrait drawing, Mr Goodwin (an LSP in Year 6) made a video to help us. You can watch it here, too!
Children also came into school wearing different rainbow colours. A whole school photo was taken of the children in their different rainbow colours during assembly. This will capture the ‘installation artwork’ of having them all in the hall as a Shireland Hall rainbow, representing the brightness and diversity of our school.
As a homework task before the day, children were also invited to create a portrait of someone who inspires them. Homework pieces were displayed on the day and prizes were awarded!
What a fantastic day! We can’t wait for families to see our art work this half term.
