Tuesday 21st April was International Day at Shireland Hall, the aim of the day was to identify and celebrate the diversity of Great Britain.
In preparation for the day, children and staff mades sashes at home, to represent their heritage. These were shared and each class created a map to show their collective heritage.
Classes in Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in a performing arts workshop which:
- created a practical awareness of the assumptions we make about others
- made children aware of how prejudices can lead to extremist thoughts and actions
- gave children the opportunity to learn facts about different cultures to aid cross-cultural awareness
An afternoon tea was held for parents, run by the Family Support team. A traditional English afternoon tea was served and parents contributed a delicious range of food from their varied cultures.
