Yesterday at SHP, we held our very own History Day. It was a great success with many children and staff dressing up! All of the children became historians for the day, using sources to find out about a person from history. Year 1 classes discovered information about Henry VIII and his wives; Year 2 Cherry learnt about Cleopatra; Year 2 Apple about the Roman, Agricola; Y2 Plum about Elizabeth I; Year 3 focused on Abraham Lincoln; Y4 uncovered facts about Tutankhamun; Y5 learnt about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert; and Year 6 focused on Ghengis Khan. Children in EYFS began to develop their understanding of history through storytelling, focusing on Robin Hood.
The theme for the day was ‘The H Factor’, as explained by Simon Cowell in the video below:
The H Factor performance took place in the afternoon, with all of the classes performing a song to the judges Elizabeth II (Mrs Wilkes), Audrey Hepburn (Miss Benson) and Mr Shephard. Performances included Elizabeth I singing ‘All the Single Ladies’, Henry VIII and his wives performing Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’, Abraham Lincoln singing George Michael’s ‘Freedom’ and Tutankhamun singing The Lion King’s ‘I Just Can’t Wait to Be King’.
