Children and staff at SHP enjoyed yet another fantastic World Book Day, a wonderful opportunity to become absorbed in the joy of reading.
Assembly started the day off, where we used Twitter to see how people all over the country were celebrating World Book Day. We showed the children the authors’ pages that we were following on Twitter and explained how we would Tweet our World Book Day learning outcomes to them.
Year 1 were focussing on the traditional tales of Anansi the spider by Gerald McDermott and made Anansi spiders from pipe cleaners, African animal masks and decorated biscuits as spiders.
Year 2 were focussing ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ by Clare Freedman and made a washing line of underwear, decorated biscuits as aliens and made alien hats.
Year 3 were focussing on ‘Smashing Saxons’ by Terry Deary and made their own swords and shields.
Year 4 were focussing on ‘The Cat in the Hat’ by Dr Seus and made puppets, story boards and cat hats covered in quotes.
Year 5 were focussing on ‘Frankenstein’ by Mary Shelley and made junk model monsters. Mr Ball dressed up as a crazy scientist and used talcum powder to make his hair white.
Year 6 were focussing on ‘Maze Runner’ by James Dashner and used the green screen to create freeze frames of the characters in the midst of their escapades.
Reception children made superhero themed Lego movies based on what they’ve been learning about the Incredibles and the Supertato story.
Thank you to all of our families, children and staff who took part in the day and made it so enjoyable.
