To ensure reading is valued as a key life skill and as such, we are dedicated to enabling all our pupils to become successful lifelong, functional readers.
To encourage children to enjoy reading and develop a love of language that will be nurtured and encouraged, enabling them to flourish across all areas of their learning and lives.
To ensure that by the time children leave school, they become competent and confident readers who can recommend books to their peers, articulate their reading preferences and participate in discussions about books and authors.
To deliver high-quality, systematic phonics to all children as the prime approach in learning to decode (read) and encode (write), enabling them to become confident in their early reading strategies.
To provide a high-quality English education that will teach all pupils to speak and write for a range of purposes so that they can communicate their ideas effectively.
To promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping all pupils, including those with English as an Additional Language, with a strong command of the spoken and written word which are essential in order for our children to participate fully as a member of society.
To provide a progressive, cyclic writing curriculum which enables all pupils to learn and embed their literacy skills, allowing them to become life-long Successful Learners, Confident Individuals and Responsible Citizens.
These outline the various areas of study in Writing and Reading for each year group, and ensure coverage and opportunities for assessment.
