Reading Curriculum Intent
It is our vision that:
High-quality, systematic phonics is taught to all children as the prime approach in learning to decode (read) and encode (write), enabling them to become confident in their early reading strategies.
From an early age, children independently apply their phonic knowledge and become successful learners in reading and writing.
Children enjoy reading and develop a love of language that will be nurtured and encouraged, enabling them to achieve their full potential.
Reading is valued as a key life skill and as such, we are dedicated to enabling all our pupils to become successful lifelong readers.
By the time children leave School, we expect that they have become competent and confident readers who can recommend books to their peers, have a thirst for reading a range of genres and participate in discussions about books and authors.
Writing Curriculum Intent
It is our vision that
To provide a high-quality English education that will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others.
To promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word which are essential in order for our children to participate fully as a member of society.
To provide a progressive, cyclic writing curriculum which enables children to learn and embed their literacy skills, allowing them to become life-long successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
